Is Your New Home Ready for ‘Wabi Sabi’?
Every new home owner wants to put their own personal stamp on their property. We understand, this is where you will spend a lot of your free time and importantly, it is reflection of you and your family’s style, choice and individual personalities. A new home brings the benefit of up-to-date décor, modern appliances and the very best of everything so how do turn this new home into your pride and joy? Here are a few tips for new home owners:
Interior Design
Colour trends change, for 2018, ruby red and lavender are key but perhaps not together. Both colours are warming and alluring, however, red is a strong choice and definitely needs the right space. Olive green is seeing a return too and circles are going to be massive; yes, circles. While rose gold has held onto its glory; nobly, it may be about to lose its crown with brass and indeed copper regaining popularity. In fact, you can likely expect lots of copper vases or brass handles to feature in homes around the world so perhaps stay ahead by getting some pieces now to complement your new home.
Personalising
Each room should be personalised to you, by you. For example, your new bathroom will certainly be beautiful but be sure to create your own vision; add a luxurious textured floor cover, candles or plants/flowers. Invest in window dressing that improves the surrounding space. Candles are a simple yet effective way to create the signature personal scent of a home – pick one you love and place it in the hall, so your guests are welcomed by its phenomenal scent.
Trends
This is not one for the perfectionists as 2018 is going to be all about ‘Wabi Sabi’, the Japanese movement that essentially means less frills, embracing imperfection and living beyond rules. The idea is to leave your bed unmade but ideally in a certain fluffed up pretty mess! Yes, it is that technical, yet the idea derives from rule breaking. Velvet is the textile of choice for many and it is ‘current’ amongst trend setters and followers. Using textiles will help you to furbish with colour and texture to build a personality within your dream living space. You can continue this trend through well-placed rugs, cushions and throws.
Kitchen Gadgets
For many people, the kitchen is the heart of the home (depending on your love of cooking and of course your skill level!). Luckily, all kitchens in Victoria Homes’ new houses are designed with that in mind, using the very best quality with all modern conveniences. But we know that new home buyers love their gadgets or on-trend appliances from counter-top Joseph Joseph cutting boards, coloured apple slicers and seasonal cookie cutters to feature spiralisers. Pick colours you love and pop them into your kitchen décor to brighten the lively centre up. And don’t forget to customise seating by adding contemporary cushions or seat throws.
Gardens
Your new home will have a landscaped garden and, weather permitting, this can become an extra dining or entertaining space for the summer months. One good tip is to ensure the garden is consistent with your indoor design and styling. With a little effort, a garden can go from being adequate to amazing in a few short weeks. Dining outside was traditionally done directly outside the back door but things are changing and now it is advised that you bring your al fresco dining up the garden. This will enable you to draw your visitors in and create beautiful walkways to the area dotted with stepping stones or flowers/plants. Organic food is as popular as ever so consider growing your own if you have the space and remember to have a feature in every garden, for example, a small monument, tasteful water-feature or strategic up-lighting.
Enjoy your new home!
